How to Repot a Monstera Without Killing It

Repotting a monstera is mostly about timing and drainage. Wait until roots circle the bottom of the pot, usually every two years. Choose a pot one size up with drainage holes, and use a chunky mix of potting soil, orchid bark, and perlite. Water the plant the day before so the root ball slides out in one piece. Tease the outer roots loose, set the plant at the same depth it sat before, and backfill without packing the soil down. Water it through once, then leave it alone for a week in bright indirect light. Drooping for a few days is normal. Yellow leaves after two weeks usually mean the new pot is too big and the soil is staying wet.
