A Beginner Guide to Propagating Pothos in Water

Pothos is the easiest houseplant to propagate, which makes it the right first project. Cut a stem just below a node, the small brown bump where a leaf meets the vine, making sure each cutting has at least one node and one leaf. Strip the leaf closest to the cut end. Stand the cuttings in a glass of room-temperature water with the nodes submerged and the leaves dry. Change the water weekly. Roots appear in one to two weeks and are ready for soil when they reach five centimeters. Plant several cuttings in one pot for a full plant instead of a single lonely vine.
